AngularJS is the first version of Google's popular Angular framework for creating web applications. AngularJS was one of the first frameworks for creating single-page web applications. Several companies and teams adopted AngularJS for their web applications, but AngularJS has reached the end of its life and no longer receives updates.
What problem did AngularJS solve?
AngularJS helped companies build web applications that functioned very much like native desktop applications even though they lived inside of web browsers. These applications were much more dynamic and feature-rich than normal web pages thanks to the new single-page application architecture Google heavily promoted.
What is a single-page application?
A single-page application is a web application that does not need a full web browser page refresh to show you a new page within the application. Single-page applications have logic inside of them to show users new pages as they navigate through the application. Data is loaded in the background as users interact with the single-page application using JavaScript. Without having to fully reload a web page, single-page applications look and feel much more like desktop applications, and, thanks to loading data in the background, they can respond very quickly to user input.
What is the current status of AngularJS?
AngularJS is no longer an actively developed project. Teams that are using AngularJS must migrate to a new framework for their web applications in place of AngularJS. Since AngularJS is no longer receiving active development support from Google, security vulnerabilities and bugs in AngularJS will no longer be fixed. This means applications that continue to use AngularJS will have unpatched vulnerabilities someone could exploit.
